Android is Java Based application programming environment, so to use Android Studio, you need to install JDK ie Java Development Kit.The JDK is a development environment for building applications, applets, and components using the Java programming language. The JDK includes tools useful for developing and testing programs written in the Java programming language and running on the Java platform.

Just verify which version of the JDK you have: open a command line and type “javac -version". If the JDK is not available or the version is lower than 1.8, download the Java SE Development Kit 8.
